This was my first attempt at painting Zion. I like how the dirt conveys depth and the sagebrush brings life to the desert floor. The trees in the foreground never quite felt convincing, and the cliffs could have used more depth. But even here, I was beginning to sense what would become a lifelong fascination with the red rock, its quiet strength, and color that glows from within.
